Youth Theatre Spring Term 2012 Starts w/c 3 January
As well as classes at The Courtyard we also run sister Youth Theatres across Herefordshire. Click on the links above to find your nearest one.
At The Courtyard we have one of the biggest Youth Theatres in Herefordshire with over 200 young people taking part each week. They are led by David and Kate and are split down into 4 different stages depending on your school year. For a full schedule of classes download the document underneath the image to your right.
Courtyard Kids
Courtyard Kids caters for Reception through Year 2 and is on a Wednesday afternoon. In these sessions you’ll have lots of fun playing different drama games and get to meet loads of new people from different schools. The cost per term is £53 for the 2011-12 school year.
Junior Youth Theatre
Our Junior Youth Theatre is for Years 3 – 9 and is on a Saturday (but we have 2 Year 8 classes and one of them is on a Friday) and is led by Ellen or David. The cost per term is £58 for the 2011-12 school year.
Intermediate Youth Theatre (Waiting List until Easter holidays)
When you join our Intermediate Youth Theatre (for Years 10 & 11), the work starts to become more intense. The sessions move to either a Wednesday evening for Year 10s or a Friday evening for Year 11s, and run for 90 minutes. You’ll be treated as a young professional theatre company. You’ll be looking at scripts that have shaped British theatre as well as developing your thoughts on what is good or bad theatre. We may start to look at different performance styles (e.g. In-the-Round or promenade) and how this changes the relationship between actor and audience. We try and stage a small scale production in the Studio Theatre in the spring term but we are careful not to clash with any school exams. The cost per term is £58 for the 2011-12 school year.
Senior Youth Theatre (Waiting List until Spring Half Term 2012)
The Senior Youth Theatre is for anyone aged 16 – 23; autumn term will be led by David as they prepare for a production in the spring 2012 season. The ethos of the group is very much about performing and developing your performance skills. By now you will have the mastered the basic skills of performing and you’ll now be challenged as an individual actor whilst supporting your other company members. Many of the students go on to University or Drama School to further increase their acting skill and this is a good base on which to leave. The cost per term is £58 for the 2011-12 school year.

Youth Theatre Productions
Courtyard Kids and Junior Youth Theatre
Every other year we are able to stage a professional production in the Main House that is fully supported by our technical and marketing teams. We employ a professional creative team to work on the production, which makes this a unique opportunity within Herefordshire. In 2009 we produced The Wizard of Oz and had fantastic feedback; many hailing it as our best Youth Theatre production to date. In 2011 we produced a British classic, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for the Easter holidays. For the first time ever, we offered roles to our youngest Youth Theatre members, the Courtyard Kids (Reception/Year 1 and Year 2), and the production was very popular and highly acclaimed.
Intermediate Youth Theatre
Years 10 and 11 are now in rehearsals for their productions of The Musicians and Gold, respectively, that will be performed in the Studio in March. Because the roles have already been cast and rehearsals have begun, we will not be accepting any new students into Intermediate Youth Theatre until Summer term.
Senior Youth Theatre
David is currently working with the Senior Youth Theatre company towards a production of Our Country's Good during the spring 2012 term, culminating in performances on 23, 24 and 25 February in the Main House. Book early at the Box Office to avoid disappointment! Because of this production, we wil not be accepting any new Senior Youth Theatre students until after February half term.
