Remember Me 2015

Remember Me is The Courtyard’s annual Dementia Awareness Week. We spoke to project manager Penny Allen to find our more about the day:

“Remember Me is when the Creative Ageing team take over The Courtyard! We run a whole programme of arts activities for people living with dementia. This year will be my third Remember Me, for the last few years I have been helping out on The Big Draw which is the focal point for the days activities, both as an idea and physically here in The Courtyard. This ten foot long drawing takes up most of the foyer and everyone who attend Remember Me spends at least a little time at the table – some people spend hours with us drawing, talking, or just watching the beautiful images appear on the page. With 4 experienced artists supporting the session people of all abilities are supported to make their mark on this huge piece. But that’s not all that is going on! This year we have a jam packed agenda of arts activities, from the Story Suitcase drama session, to the Dance Magic Dance taster class, and a chance to see exhibitions of work from care home residents across Herefordshire.

This day is aimed at people living with dementia, and here at The Courtyard we know that means not only to the person with a dementia diagnosis, but also their carers, family and friends. All of our activities are designed to be enjoyed together. For people who are supporting someone with a dementia diagnosis, life can be so filled up with focusing on caring for their loved one that there is no opportunity to do something together. Remember Me is a wonderful way to take part in something creative and enjoyable together, in an understanding and supportive setting. There will also be our Services Signposts stands offering information about services for people living with dementia in Herefordshire.”

Remember Me 2015 takes place on 21 May, 12 noon till 4pm at The Courtyard. All events are free, but some will require booking. For full information see our programme of events or call Katrin Cross Adult Participation Officer on 01432 346535.
