This year The Courtyard co-ordinated Herefordshire's very first Arts Career Convention. The day was designed to give students from Year 9 upwards an opportunity to engage with all the departments within the building.
We are building upon the success of that and will be inviting more artists and practitioners to be here on the day to meet your students. The day will run all day on Thursday 19 January 2012 (2013 date to be set). There is a booking form the right of this text which you can download and return to us. Time slots are dealt with on a first come first served basis, so we advise that you return this form as soon as possible.
Your students will get an opportunity to meet the following departments:
Education - with a practical workshop in our rehearsal room which demonstrated the type of workshops that we deliver in schools around the county.
Technical - with practical demonstrations from our lighting and sound technicians as well as an overview to the workings of backstage.
Operations - discussing their role and responsibilities including health and safety, looking after our audiences, setting up rooms as well as the slightly less glamourous side of cleaning up bodily fluids...
Programming - a chat with our Programmer about how we programme our live events (where we find the shows and how much they might cost!) as well as a sneak peak on what is coming up for the rest of the year!
Sales and Marketing - a chat with our marketeers and box officers who work together to nurture and develop our audiences. How many brochures do we print a year and how many tickets do we sell?
Business Development - a chat with our Business Development team who work on getting external funding for The Courtyard to function and develop. A department that is often unknown and a chance to understand the business side of the organisation.
The day is a fantastic way of allowing students an opportunity to understand the dynamics of a growing arts organisation and the different roles and routes to working within the arts.
