The next Year 10 & Year 11 Drama Day will be held on Monday 7 March 2011.
These days are now a significant date in secondary school diaries. Working with Courtyard practitioners as well as external practitioners the day is designed to benefit students that are studying drama at GCSE/BTEC as well as those studying the Diploma.
As many of you are aware we have been running successful Drama Days for the past 6 years and they have been a great opportunity for your students to meet professional theatre practitioners and is a chance to perform at The Courtyard. It puts the students work into context as they watch their peers’ performances as well as taking part in different workshops. To us this day can only enrich your student’s creative learning and performance skills and we’re extremely proud of our previous Drama Days because of this.
However, due to the rarely cover guidelines, and the increasing difficulties taking your students out of school, this year’s drama day is for both Year 10 and Year 11 students. Year 10 students will work together on improvisation to create a short performance and will not need to prepare anything in advance. Whereas, Year 11 students will be given the opportunity to perform an extract from a piece they have been working on as part of their Year 11 course. It might be a scripted piece or a devised one and they will receive constructive feedback from our panel of theatre directors to enhance their performances.
The day will most probably run like this:
Year 10 Year 11
10am Workshop 1 Workshop 1
11am Workshop 2 Workshop 2
12pm Improvisation Time Lunch
12:45pm Lunch Performances
1:30pm Performances Performances continue
2:30pm Finish Finish
There is a maximum of 60 students for each year group and the cost per student is £5. This will help us cover the costs of the professional theatre directors that will work with your students. If you are part of the Herefordshire Arts Education Consortium it is free for your students. To book your students onto the course, please complete the downloadable form to the right of this text and return to Kate Ganderton, The Courtyard, Edgar Street, Hereford, HR4 9JR
Any local authority schools will also be entitled to free coach transport to and from The Courtyard for the day. If you would like any further information please contract Grant Brisland on 01432 346535 / grant.brisland@courtard.org.uk
