A finely paced, atmospheric thriller, providing good old-fashioned entertainment of the first order. Kevin Macdonald (King of Scotland) relocates Paul Abbott's intricate TV drama about a political conspiracy from London to Washington with great effect. Russell Crowe is at his best as the scruffy, old-style reporter divided by his loyalty to an old friend and to the story he's pursuing.  Slowly it dawns that corruption lies deeper than first imagined.
