Christmas Youth Theatre Celebrations!

A Christmas celebration to round up the year for our community Youth Theatre groups

Ross on Wye

Our two community drama groups in Ross-on-Wye, Phoenix Kids and Phoenix Juniors delighted parents and carers with their ‘Christmas Creations’ showcase last Saturday.

Phoenix Kids

The Phoenix Kids (aged 4-7) presented their version of Frosty the Snowman and two stories they had created themselves. ‘Rudolph’s Lost His Nose!’ was a firm audience favourite and it was lovely to see the confidence and team-work the group had developed over the term. They’re also excited about seeing some new faces in the group in January. There is an open taster session on Saturday 7 January from 9.30am -10.15am. Any young person aged 4-7 who would like to join us is welcome! Email takepart@courtyard.org.uk if you would like any further details.

Phoenix Juniors

The Phoenix Juniors group (aged 8-14) also showed off their creativity. They performed short devised pieces based on Christmas song titles. They also treated the audience to a mini pantomime, a first for these budding young actors. With local references and characters created by them, it had the audience laughing, booing and shouting in all the right places. It has left us all very excited for what they will achieve in a full Summer show, which they will be working on from January.

Bromyard

Senior Groups

The ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future have been let loose in Bromyard! Last month the Conquest Senior Youth Theatre performed their unique take on the Dickensian classic at Bromyard’s favourite Christmas Tree festival. In the illustrious surroundings of a very festive looking St. Peter’s Church the group brought the story to life as you’ve never seen it before. Complete with tour guide ghosts, goldfish charity workers and friendly dinner ladies! The performance provided much merriment to the assembled audience.

Intermediate and Junior Groups

The Conquest Intermediate and Junior group have also been working hard on a more traditional version of the story, albeit with a couple of dance routines thrown in for good measure. It’s been great fun putting together these performances and allowing the groups to put their own spin on a classic tale. Next term we will be working towards a longer, scripted play that will push our actors abilities even further. Watch this space!
