Crucial funding for accessible changing spaces

We are delighted to have received £80,000 crucial funding for the development of accessible changing spaces!

Herefordshire was one of six regional councils to be awarded money by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities to install Changing Places Toilets (CPTs). This funding will now enable three accessible toilets and changing spaces to be built and fitted with specialist equipment here at The Courtyard, at Aspire Living’s community hub and at Maylord Orchards shopping centre.

“The Courtyard has always strived to be as accessible and inclusive as possible and having a suitable changing place for disabled audience members is something that’s been on our wish list for quite some time.” Says Courtyard Marketing & Audience Development Manager Robyn Barratt, “We’re thrilled to receive this funding which will make the world of difference to our customers.”

Due to the nature of the work and costs involved in developing these spaces and fitting them with specialist equipment, we have previously been unable to complete this work. The funding will be life changing for audience members, and those who attend our regular Inclusive and Relaxed events. Previously, customers requiring a hoist would have had to go to The Old Market to use this facility, which would have taken longer than the standard allocated interval time or workshop break time. Having these kind of facilities on site will enable these customers to have the enjoyable, relaxed experience they should be getting at The Courtyard, without having to worry about whether they will be able to get to a toilet in time. It will also allow customers to attend The Courtyard who would have otherwise been unable to.

The cleaning, maintenance and materials for this project will be co-funded by The Courtyard, who will also absorb the cost of any surveys needed.

Here at The Courtyard we are committed to being as accessible as possible. From Relaxed performances and screenings, Audio Description, complimentary carers tickets and much more, we work hard to cultivate a welcoming environment for everyone.
