An inspirational and moving tale of rebellion, courage and hope, spanning 14 years for budding Nepali filmmaker Belmaya. Born a Dalit (the lowest, ‘untouchable’ caste) in a poor hill village in Nepal, orphaned at nine, and trapped in an abusive marriage with a baby daughter, at 21 Belmaya has given up hope of finding happiness. Desperate for independence, she seizes the chance to train in documentary filmmaking, gaining the skills and confidence to forge a new path. Belmaya embarks on her graduation film about the importance of education for girls with a view to create a better life for her young daughter. But are her resentful husband and conservative community ready for this?
