A thoughtful film about discovering passions and the importance of recognition and gratitude, this is a sweet meditation on the life of an ordinary housewife finding happiness. Agnes (Macdonald) operates a ‘happy’ home with her predictable and disparaging husband. On receiving a puzzle for her birthday, she discovers a previously-unknown skill and travels to Manhattan, looking for puzzles, and finding herself in partnership with Robert (Khan). Recognising not only her talent, but her outer and inner beauty, complications begin.
“What I like most about “Puzzle” is how it gets away from its competitive angle to capture how winning doesn’t really matter to Agnes as much as finally getting to express herself. It’s putting the puzzle of life together that’s exciting, not the final picture.”
