Turn the Beat Around | Improvisation & Song ‘Writing’
Training sessions for care staff, activity leaders and other practitioners who want to gain skills, knowledge and experience in leading music based activities with older people. Led by Matthew Laurie, part of the Creative Ageing programme.
Improvisation is a key skill for facilitators to work ‘from the person’, responding to and celebrating the in the moment behaviours and interests of the people they support. In this session we will look at the nature of improvisation, how flexible repertoire can support this approach and how an improvisatory approach can lead to new songs and repertoire, often in the moment. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how improvisation is key to interaction and how to include this in their sessions.
