Great British Pantomime Awards 2022!

Great British Pantomime Awards 2022

On Tuesday 19 April, The Courtyard team donned their glad rags and headed to London for the Great British Pantomime Awards 2022. The West End’s Trafalgar Theatre held the awards and Christopher Biggins hosted. It was a beautiful, newly refurbished venue. The UK Pantomime Association nominated us for two awards: Best Script and Best Panto (under 500 seats.)

The audience took their seats and Christopher Biggins introduced the evening. The atmosphere was wonderful, and there was a real buzz. Invited guests presented the awards one by one, inviting each winner to accept their award onstage. A variety of performances took place in between presenters reading out the awards. These featured performers at Butlins, Myra Dubois, and panto cast members from across the country. There were a couple of moving moments too throughout the evening. Firstly, Scott Mitchell gave a touching speech about his late wife Barbara Windsor. Secondly, the audience applauded halfway through with a standing ovation to commemorate those we have sadly lost in the last year. As a result, there was a really moving sense of community throughout the evening.

The Courtyard did not win any awards. However, the fact that the UK Pantomime Association nominated us in the top 5 across all UK theatres in both categories is amazing and we are incredibly grateful. Congratulations to all winners and nominees – what a fantastic evening!
