HeRo – Special Ancestry Event

Discover your ancestry with a free special talk at The Courtyard

Saturday 18 July 4.30pm

Global family history website Ancestry is hosting a free talk, and offering visitors the opportunity to trace their ancestors for free!

The talk will be held on Saturday 18 July to coincide with The Courtyard Senior Youth Theatre’s production of HeRo, a brand new piece of drama created from real life stories of people from this county to commemorate the Great War. The talk will be led by Marcela Popovicova from Ancestry, and feature information about family history and genealogy. It will use Percy Pritchard as an example, the former owner of Pritchards of Hereford, who features in the production of HeRo, having enlisted in the Herefordshire Regiment in 1914 on the outbreak of WWI.

Ancestry has also extended free access to its database from our Media Suite throughout June and July. This will allow visitors to get a taste of the Ancestry experience and discover more about their family histories through the site’s collection of online records. Ancestry offers access to 1 billion searchable UK family history records. This extensive collection enables members to explore their family history using historic censuses, the fully indexed birth, marriage and death records, passenger lists, the British phone books, military and parish records and more.

Matthew Allder, Audience Development Manager at The Courtyard, said,

“We are very excited to be working with Ancestry to offer this talk in conjunction with our production of HeRo. Both explore local history of Herefordshire and this is a great opportunity to take a look back into your own family history and ancestors, some of whom may well have experienced the battlefields that our production depicts.”

Marcela Popovicova, Content Executive at Ancestry, said,

“We are delighted to attend this wonderful event and learn more about the impact that WWI had on those from the Herefordshire area, as well as help attendees discover more about their own family stories.”

Ancestry access will be available from The Courtyard’s free Media Suite from Monday 1 June – Friday 31 July. Please ask at Box Office for details.

The Ancestry Talk will take place on Saturday 18 July from 4.30pm and is free when booking tickets to the production of HeRo.
