National Volunteers’ Week: The Courtyard Stewards
In celebration of Volunteers’ Week, we wanted to say THANK YOU to our volunteers for their contribution, with a special exhibition all about them!
The Courtyard depends hugely on the kindness of supporters so we decided to dedicate an exhibition to the very volunteers that make this organisation tick and acknowledge the generous support that they give. What better way to celebrate our volunteers than to tell the world all about them, including why they volunteer and some of their favourite memories.
The largest group of volunteers at The Courtyard are the Stewards. Around 100 Stewards help out at events and films taking on a range of tasks including helping audience members to their seats and selling ice creams.
The Courtyard Gerry & Ian Moore have been volunteering sine The Courtyard opened, 20 years & 8 months ago!

“We volunteer at The Courtyard because we enjoy being part of the whole experience of bringing theatre and film to a wide and varied audience, young and old, from near or far.
Our favourite thing about volunteering is welcoming people to our lovely facility and seeing the enjoyment that theatre and film can bring to everyone.
If you’re thinking about volunteering, our advice is to get on the waiting list as soon as you can!”
Familiar face, June Stephens has been a steward for just under 20 years. For Volunteers’ Weeks she has shared her favourite memory of volunteering at The Courtyard with us:

“My favourite memory was when I was filmed for a fundraising video talking about The Courtyard and showing me stewarding. I remember saying that The Courtyard was my family and, since my illness, it’s proved right.
If you’re thinking about volunteering, my advice is to put your name down and join the happy band of stewards. There’s always something you can do to help.”
