Roald Dahl Literacy Project for KS2 Pupils

We’re delighted to announce that we are relaunching our exciting Roald Dahl Literacy Project for KS2 pupils!

2022 will be our eleventh year of running the project which has seen primary schools from all across Herefordshire participate. It constitutes five sessions, engaging children with drama whilst covering key elements of the literacy curriculum.

Education Officer and Youth Theatre Leader Becky Cook tells us more…

“The Roald Dahl Literacy project is one of my favourite projects of the year! Roald Dahl created some of the most wonderful characters and stories that continue to inspire kids (and big kids!) today. In our workshops, classes devise, script, and create their own performance. The pupils then get to perform it on The Courtyard’s main house stage!

This will be my sixth year delivering the project. The creativity, enthusiasm, and ideas that the young people bring to the sessions are amazing! The workshops develop key literacy skills, communication, confidence, and teambuilding – and of course we have a lot of fun too! The workshops are accessible to the whole class with a role for everyone. From budding scriptwriters to prop makers to performers, there really is a part for everyone to be fully involved and engaged.

After the workshops, classes can spend a day at The Courtyard. Whilst here, they have a dress rehearsal, backstage tour, and workshops. Then in the evening, the class performs their Roald Dahl story to friends and family on the main house stage alongside other primary schools. It really is a magical evening as a result of the hard work and support from teachers, parents and of course, the incredible students themselves!”
