Strong Young Minds – Express Yourself Art Exhibition

Express Yourself art exhibition

Now more than ever, we hope to encourage more people to get involved and spread the word about the importance of talking about mental health, prioritising self-care and nourishing ourselves to embrace the thoughts and feelings we may have about us and the people around us!

That’s why as part of Place2Be’s Children’s Mental Health Week, our friends at Strong Young Minds and The CLD Trust are excited to be introducing a brand-new art exhibition to help you find ways to share your own ideas through creativity.

Strong Young Minds is a project designed to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young people (10-26) in Herefordshire. They work with young people to address issues which can have an adverse effect on their mental health and wellbeing, such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, self-harm, bullying, cyberbullying, relationship breakdown, employability, low self-esteem, body image and loss.

It’s important to remember that being able to express yourself is not about being the best at something or putting on a performance for others. It’s about finding a way to show who you are, and how you see the world, that can help you feel good about yourself.

We are all unique and individual, what makes you, you? What do you love doing? Maybe something helps you to feel motivated when you are low or helps to relax when you are anxious? Or, if you are feeling particularly abstract, let loose with some expressive colours or shapes!

Through photography, sculptures, poems, textiles, songs, dance (or however you like to express yourself) all submissions of all ages will either be displayed in shop windows in Herefordshire’s Maylords Orchards, or online through the Strong Young Minds website and social media! It doesn’t just have to be about mental health, the process of making alone is great for mental wellbeing!

To get involved, please send photos or recordings of submissions to harriet@thecldtrust.org by February 10 2021. All physical submissions must be ready to be hung up for display (e.g., photos printed out, paintings mounted) and dropped off to Hereford city centre by February 17 for the exhibition opening March 1.
