The Panto Proposal… Oh yes he did!

Panto Proposal 2018Hearts were warmed when a brave man proposed to his partner on stage at The Courtyard last week.

Matthew Pace-Bardon proposed to Katie Williams during the second act of The Courtyard’s annual pantomime, Peter Pan. Knowing full well what was about to happen, Ms Smee (played by Philip Day) and her son Smee (played by Ellis Kerkhoven) invited Matthew up on to the stage to sing their piratical version of Proclaimers hit, 500 Miles. Once the song was finished, Matthew took the microphone, got down on one knee and asked Katie to be his wife.

The audience gasped waiting for her to answer with cheers erupting all round when she said yes!

Matthew said, “I know Katie loved the theatre, so I thought why not propose to her on stage with our children Freya, Logan and Paisley with us to share the magic of theatre. It was also the most magical time of the year coming up to Christmas. I would like to thank Front of House Manager, Katie Owen, Philip Day, Ellis Kerkhoven and Captain Hook actor, Craig Painting (who gave me a good luck thumbs up from the wings) for making the day so special for us both.”

This was not the first proposal that The Courtyard stage has seen, with Andrew Berry proposing to his partner Helen Jones at the end of the pantomime in 2016.
