Wellbeing is really important to us at The Courtyard, be it for our customers or our staff. During a time where Mental Health is being highlighted throughout the media and where heavy flooding is affecting many homes and businesses, the arts can connect and heal people and we’re proud to be able to facilitate that.

Theatre

Watching a live show keeps your brain active! Coming to see a theatre production can help your mind focus as you are connected with the show and this can also reduce tension. We offer a broad range of shows so it doesn’t have to just be a comedy club to lift your mood. Take a look at what we have coming up here.

Cinema

In similar ways to theatre, watching a movie in the Cinema can help your mind focus and encourages emotional release. Watching a film can feel cathartic and change the way we think and feel. So give yourself a couple of hours away from the world, snuggle up with one of the blankets and cushions we provide and let the film take over. See what is coming up at The Courtyard Cinema here.

Creative Ageing

The Courtyard was delighted to become the first Arts Centre in the UK to join the Dementia Action Alliance (DAA). We offer Dementia Friendly Screenings and Performances, our Spectacular Tea Dances and we hold free Information Sessions where you can become a Dementia Friend. In recent years, we’ve ventured into intergenerational workshops for people with dementia to meet and interact with young children through our Playing Together sessions with Wyldwood. Art

We have a gallery space and host many exhibitions throughout the year. Visiting our gallery can stimulate brain activity and is a great way to process complex feelings and find relief. It is free so pop up to our gallery or have a look here at what is coming up.

Café Bar

Our Café Bar is a sociable, safe and comfortable place to come in and relax. Our menu offers Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and we have a Quiche and Salad Bar to tantalise your taste buds. A healthy diet can impact your mind in a positive way so try out one of our meals with a green heart next to it! View our menu and opening times here.

Exercise

We offer regular workshops and classes, available for varying ages from children to those who have retired. Whether you are looking to draw, dance or do some yoga or make some new friends, check the workshops out here.

Mental Health Project

In addition to all of the mood-boosting events and services that we offer here, our Education Team have also devised an award-winning Mental Health Project, #TalkAwayDontWalkAway. The project has been delivered to hundreds of children across secondary schools in Herefordshire already and the team have recently launched their Mental Health Workshops designed specifically for primary schools.

Talk Community Hub

In March 2020 The Courtyard will be launched as a Talk Community Hub in conjunction with Herefordshire Council. It’s fantastic knowing that our customers and members of the public feel safe at The Courtyard. Becoming a Talk Community Hub will mean they can come to us for information about the services and support available as well as encouraging supportive relationships between our customers and audience members. The arts connect people and we’re excited to be able to facilitate that.
