The Courtyard is delighted to launch two brand-new regular classes for young people aged 14 – 19.
Actors Academy: Advanced Performance is for young people looking for a springboard into the acting industry with the aim of preparing those who are exploring a career as a professional performer.
Weekly sessions will focus on advanced acting skills, exploring how different practitioner’s techniques can be applied to script work and devising, monologue selection and delivery, acting for film and TV, and audition techniques.
There will be workshop opportunities with professional individuals and companies such as Fourth Monkey, Open Sky and Matt Canny as well as a host of performance opportunities, throughout the year. This will include a showcase for specially invited industry professionals, and studio productions.
Sessions will be on Saturdays, 11am – 12.30pm for ages 15 – 19.

Actors Academy: Writing For Performance weekly sessions offer the chance to explore creative writing and learn different techniques for writing for performance. From spoken word poetry and storytelling to monologues and scripts, participants will work towards writing their own piece of original and creative theatre.
There will be opportunities to learn from industry professionals with workshops from guest practitioners as well as the opportunity to collaborate with actors from other Courtyard performance groups.
Sessions will be on Friday, 5pm – 6.30 pm for ages 14 – 19.

FAQs
Why should I carry on with Youth Theatre as well as Actors Academy?
Youth Theatre offers you the opportunity to take part in productions, either in the Studio Theatre with Intermediates, or on the Main House stage with Seniors. Taking both classes means you get the benefit of advanced level performance skill AND get to take part in productions.
Why do I need to audition?
We need to make sure that you are the right fit for this class, as we will be working at a high level.
Why do I need to audition for Advanced Performance but there are no entry requirements for Writing For Performance?
We need you to audition for Actors Academy: Advanced Performance because we will be working collaboratively as a group to explore high level performance skills. Actors Academy: Writing For Performance is not aimed at a particular skill level.
Why is it more expensive than Youth Theatre?
The cost reflects the fact that you get to work with industry professionals and professional actors alongside our excellent team.
What are the fees going towards?
The fees go directly into delivering the classes.
If I am an 18 year old preparing for drama school, how will being in a class with 15 year olds affect my progress?
Younger students in the class will be auditioned to make sure they are a good fit for the high level of work we will be doing.
How is this going to prepare me for a career in the arts?
These classes will offer the opportunity to expand your knowledge of play scripts, playwrights and practitioners, which increases your appeal to a selection panel. You will have specific help with monologue preparation and delivery and audition techniques.
Are the Writing For Performance sessions focused solely on writing skills or will sessions also include information about ways in to the industry?
Sessions will largely focus on writing skills and developing your own voice as a writer. However, there will be guest speakers from the industry who will be able to answer any questions.
