Courtyard Cinema Reopens

As we cautiously move back to normality there is plenty to look forward to in the world of cinema.
We are pleased to announce we will be open from Friday 21 May!

Here are some of the best up and coming films to look out for…

Rocks (12A)

Gaining huge recognition at this year’s British Academy Film Awards for a first-time young cast, fifteen-year-old Rocks is a teenage girl with big dreams for the future, loyal fun friends and an adoring, though mischievous, little brother Emmanuel. She enjoys school (as much as any teenager does) and lives a full vibrant life in East London with her team of London-centric female best friends.

Rocks’ world is turned upside down when she returns from school to find her mum gone, having left some cash and a note offering little explanation except that she is sorry. Determined to stick with her brother and avoid being taken into care against all odds, Rocks leaves her home and hides in pockets of East London. As each day becomes tougher and her secret harder to hide, Rocks starts to push away those who love her and her friendship group begins to fracture. When the authorities finally catch up with her, there is really only one source of support for her to turn to, her friends. A film about the joy, resilience and spirit of girlhood. Rocks (12A) will be on cinema screens from Fri 21 – Tue 25 May, you can watch the trailer and book your tickets here.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (U)

May sees the long-awaited return of Peter Rabbit in Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (U) finally receiving its cinema outing from Fri 28 May – Wed 9 Jun at The Courtyard Cinema. Following on the heels of the highly successful and hilarious James Corden voiced original the latest instalment sees Thomas and Bea married and living with Peter and his rabbit family. Bored of life in the garden, Peter goes to the big city, where he meets shady characters and ends up creating chaos for the whole family. You can book your tickets for Peter Rabbit 2 here.

Nomadland (12A)

Also, in May BAFTA and Oscar winner Nomadland took three category wins for Best Film, Best Actress Frances McDormand and Best director Chloe Zhao in both the British Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) and this year’s Oscars. Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (Frances McDormand) packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad.

McDormand gives one of the quietest, most powerful performances of her career as a woman living on and discovering the joys of the road in this affecting, memorable drama.
Sandie Angulo Chen – Common Sense Media

The third feature film from director Chloé Zhao, Nomadland features real nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West. Book your tickets for Nomadland (12A).

The Father (12A)

In The Father (12A) opening in Cinemas in June, Hopkins plays the eponymous role of a mischievous and highly independent man who, as he ages, refuses all assistance from his daughter Anne (Olivia Colman). Yet, such help has become essential following Anne’s decision to move to Paris with her partner. As Anne’s father tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality. Winning both a BAFTA and an Oscar for his performance Sir Anthony delivers one of the strongest performances of his career. You can catch it on our big screens from Fri 11 Jun – Thu 17 Jun, tickets are available here.
