Mother Goose Story Competition Winner!
In the run up to this year’s pantomime The Courtyard partnered with Withington Parish Magazine to create a competition for children to take part in for the chance to win a family ticket to Mother Goose!
We asked children to write a story of up to 200 words that includes key words such as goose, golden egg and farmer’s wife. We had lots of great entries, and it was hard to choose a winner. However, we had to choose Cheri Jai Collins, age 6 for her beautiful booklet with a cracking story about a missing golden egg.
A close second was Maisie Lloyd, age 10 with her exciting story about a magical Christmas gift, you can read her wonderful story below.
‘Once upon a time, in a beautiful small village there was a small farm where a farmer and the farmers wife lived with various different animals. There was chickens, cows, pigs and a very pretty goose that the farmer had purchased at a local sale this year. She had shiny, gorgeous feathers that let off a little sparkle when she walked across the farm yard.
Every morning the farmers wife went to collect the eggs from the goose but she had a funny feeling about her egg collecting this morning. It was Christmas day and she got up early. As she arrived to the goose she started shouting ‘oh my word, come see what is here’to the farmer.
Inside the nest was a beautiful, shining golden egg! The farmer and the farmers wife could not believe what they were seeing.
The famer shouted ‘oh eggelent’ in excitement. This had never happened before and was a perfect Christmas gift.
Every Christmas from then on the goose laid one golden egg, they auctioned these golden eggs to make money towards their upkeep of the farm, making sure the goose had the best home and was fed the best food they could buy.’
