Spotlight On: Kie Cummings

Shining a spotlight on Kie Cummings – a freelance film maker/cinematographer, photographer, and community artist.  He is leading our Filmmaking Masterclasses as part of the FORGE programme.

Kie creates visual content for a wide range of individuals, groups, and organisations including charities, museums, and theatres.  He also receives commissions from various businesses to create promotional content and from a number of projects and organisations within the creative industry. Kie has curated large scale community art exhibition projects and installations locally and nationally.

Kie ran The Courtyard’s very own Film Making club for several years and is also an experienced Youth and Community Educator delivering training programmes locally and internationally. He is driven by ensuring art reaches as many people as possible.

I’m committed to the idea that art should be accessible by all.  Film is such a great way to do that, it’s a leveller – something that can bring people together.  Making films at any level is now so accessible – we all have more tools in our pocket (smart phones) than Speilberg had when he started out! It’s also a lot of fun!

Films that Kie has worked on as cinematographer or director has received nominations at the National Charity Awards and the national Into Film Awards. He recently directed a number of short films for Herefordshire Museums, the Cider Museum and Herefordshire River Carnival. Kie was cinematographer for several plays for Feral Productions: Feral Tales which were released in October 2020 – as well as the upcoming release Spring 2021 of 9 short films – Hush Now (watch the trailer here) and has been ancillary content maker for a number of Open Sky productions including Microplays and the upcoming COLD.
