The Courtyard at career’s fairs!

Emily and Jamie from our education department had a great time meeting students and parents at the careers evening at Bishop’s school. Students from Bishop’s and St. Mary’s were invited to meet potential employers and higher education professionals, and discuss their plans for the future.

Being one of the only arts venues present meant we had lots of students eager to ask questions about what a career in the arts might look like. Although we spoke to a lot of performers, dancers and singers, it was also great to discuss backstage work (Emily being a stage technician herself) and all of the jobs that working in a theatre can offer. From marketing to finance, education and operations, there are plenty of career paths to choose from!

It was also a great opportunity to promote some of our new classes, namely our Writing for Performance and Advanced Performance classes. These proved really popular with students that wanted to expand their skills and knowledge to prepare them for higher education. We also had lots of interest in our work experience programme, which provides students to sample a wide range of our departments and roles to find the one that suits them.

All in all, it was a great evening and a great opportunity to meet students and inspire the next generation of artists and performers!
