The Senior Youth Theatre go ‘Down To The Woods’
Rehearsals have begun!
The Senior Youth Theatre are taking on an exciting new project! This will see them develop and devise an immersive Early Years production inspired by the ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ song. They will be working with a professional script writer to create a unique, interactive piece of theatre specifically for Herefordshire audiences.
The focus of this term has been on professional development for the Youth Theatre performers. This has seen them participating in a wide range of workshops. They explored movement and how they can use their bodies in an inspiring session with ex Youth Theatre member Harry Jones, who has trained in Feldenkrais, The Alexander technique and Laban.
They also had a fantastic Complicité inspired movement session with professional Actor Training company ‘Fourth Monkey’.
They took part in a fascinating and informative full day intensive puppetry course with the multi-award winning Wales based theatre company PuppetSoup.
As well as performance skills, the Youth Theatre are also developing other key skills. They really enjoyed taking part in an Introduction To Sign workshop with Charlene from BabySign Hereford.
Over the next month the Youth Theatre will be working with a script writer on workshop material and ideas. This will help help them bring their very special Teddy Bear’s Picnic to life.
The Youth Theatre are also looking to do lots of outreach work leading up to and surrounding the production. This makes this a really exciting project that will benefit and engage the whole community.
What is the production about?
You are invited to bring your favourite toy and come down to the woods for a very special Teddy Bear’s picnic!
This interactive family performance will see your little ones transported to a magical woodland, where they will be joined by some of their favourite fairy-tale characters, who are in for a big surprise.

A fun, immersive family show created especially for ages 2-7 but can be enjoyed by the whole family!
How do I get involved in the future?
The Courtyard Youth Theatre gives young people the opportunity to learn through play, perform throughout the year and participate in a wide range of art forms. It also helps to develop important skills such as communication, team building, problem solving. And it’s a great way to build confidence whilst making a new group of friends.
