Wonderyard Success at The Courtyard!
Wednesday 19 April saw special guests from Hereford and the surrounding area attend The Courtyard for our Junior Youth Theatre Production of Alice in Wonderland & through the Looking Glass. With 2 casts of 85 children performing, and with ages ranging from 4 – 14 years old, this is a massive project to undertake with the whole Courtyard team involved in some capacity.
With rehearsals taking place since January, Ellen Dorsett and her creative team have had their work cut out, but have produced a wonderful performance to be proud of. The set, designed by Carl Davies, really adds to the quality of the play, with the cast transitioning seamlessly between scenes, and even moving set themselves as part of the performance.
Each principle role carries a great performance, but the special mention must go to Courtyard Kids who produce the moment of the evening with a rendition of ‘I’m A Little Teapot’, even dressed as teacups and teapots!
This is a production that wouldn’t look out of place on the tour circuit, or even in some West End theatres. We’re incredibly proud of each Youth Theatre member, and even prouder that we can give them the opportunity to perform to hundreds of audience members on our Main Stage.
Following the performance, guests were invited to a drinks reception with speeches from Roger Morgan (Chairman of the Board), Ian Archer (CEO), and especially Ellen Dorsett (Director), who received a big round of applause and bouquet of flowers as congratulations.
With former Youth Theatre member Kate Hanks taking a lead role in last year’s pantomime, Aladdin, who’s to say any of the fantastic young people performing over the course of this week won’t be going on to be professional actors? Either way, we are incredibly proud of everyone involved! Well done!
