TWO | From the Actors Perspective

It’s been a really interesting experience re-imagining Jim Cartwright’s script as an ensemble piece. The script was written as a two person play but having a full cast has led to opportunities for character interactions that would never normally arise, especially for Landlady and Landlord.

Having a lot more stage time than was originally intended has given me the opportunity to explore what the Landlord is like when he’s just behind the bar by himself, or talking to customers while Landlady isn’t there.

With regards to preparing for the roles, all the actors have done private rehearsals and been given a lot of time to profile and explore their character’s relationships to their partners before working the scenes with the rest of the cast. The two layers of understanding of each scene that this has created means each actor understands their character in depth, which will hugely benefit the level of performance.
