Volunteering at The Courtyard

Student Katie Kinnaird, 17, is undertaking voluntary stewarding at The Courtyard for her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. Check out what Katie has had to say about her experiences with us…

‘Volunteering at The Courtyard is a wonderful experience; a great way to meet people, give back to the community and, of course, have an amazing time doing it!’ 

‘I’m currently at Hereford Sixth Form College and doing the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award which is the reason I started volunteering. The award is divided into sections that need completing: physical, skill and volunteering and I had previously been struggling to find a placement. I asked for a volunteering role as a steward at The Courtyard, luckily the front of house team said ‘yes’ and I love it!’

‘I volunteer at the venue once a week and have stewarded at the pantomime, for films in the studio and a range of shows which have all been brilliant! Not only has it massively helped my confidence with interacting and engaging with unfamiliar faces but it has also led me to build great relationships with the other stewards.’

‘My role as a volunteer has allowed me to help, learn new things and give back to the community but with unbelievable experiences thrown in – I have seen Aladdin, the Circus of Horrors, Max Boyce, Sing Choirs Sing and many many more great shows  – all of which I would highly recommend. If I had to choose one favourite show, it would be The Woman in Black: the sheer brilliance and ingenuity of the production truly inspired me. ‘

‘The range of performances has allowed me to truly appreciate how brilliant The Courtyard really is and how lucky we are to have the access to these excellent shows right on our doorstep! Whatever your tastes there’s something at The Courtyard for you – whether it be humorous, scary, entertaining, moving or musical – trust me, I’m a steward and I know from experience!’
